Right Hand

Hello, this is Julie's right hand signing in. I was freed from my immobilizer! I am bruised, swollen, and stiff. But I can't let that stop me. I must reclaim my place as the dominate hand. For yesterday, my working partner, and temporary fill in underwent her carpal tunnel release. The left hand now wears the immobilizing brace. She has huge swollen fingers and aches of pain - but I know she will make it just like I did. I look forward to having my left hand buddy back to her normal self. But I should give a shout out to all the body parts that have served as temporary fill ins. My teeth have torn open many packages. My knees have helped me open many twist top jars. And my elbows and feet have opened and closed many doors. Way to pitch in guys!

laying around the house made sweeter

I made it through my first carpal tunnel surgery. It was a neat experience to go through. I learned some things I didn't know. And got to be a part of the medical world that I have been apart from for over three years now. Each and every staff member was wonderful. I was very well cared for. Every prayer answered.
My two younger kids didn't understand, and were a little traumatized by me being gone for the morning, then returning with a bandage and sling. Andie came running towards me happily shouting "Mommy!" Then she stopped when she could see my arm, and instantly became angry, and refused to come near me for a little while. This picture was just before their bedtime. I could hear them both crying for me, so I came out from my room for a sweet snuggle.
As soon as I came home from the hospital, I got a call - our new mattress was on it's way!!! Just in time for me to get to do all my recovery lay around time on it!!! I was so excited! I took pictures as they assembled the frame and everthing - the poor men probably thought I was trying to get "proof" of them doing something wrong. The picture is a boring picture, but it seemed like the thing to do, to snap a picture to capture this significant moment. Anyway, I love my bed. The one in the picture is long gone. Bye, Bye you pain inducing bed.

Surgery and such

My mom is coming to town today. She has selflessly planned to stay for as long as I need her. I am going in for day surgery on my hand Monday. The doctor is doing a carpal tunnel release on my right hand. So she is literally going to be my right hand mom. Hopefully my hand will heal quick so the other hand can be fixed while she is still here. I am sure I will be amazed how many daily tasks require the use of both hands. Most of them seem personal - getting dresses, doing hair, make-up and so on. Changing Dean's diaper will be interesting. But surely I can do it with one hand. Have y'all seen the internet videos of the mom with no arms? - Wow!

Yesterday, after I had lab work drawn, I joined Trey at his pharmacy to share a sandwich with him. We ate it sitting in the medical mall, laughing that this is what our dates have come down to. But today we are going to a wedding together. I always like attending weddings with my husband. It takes us back to our day, and our newlywed feelings for each other.

Well, a few posts ago I blogged about my broken dishwasher. Trey and I went looking for one this week. After going to the usual Lowes and Home Depot, we went to a local place, Beal's Appliance. They had exactly what we needed at a good price. And the process was just plain fun. Turns out the people there know Trey's family - so we had lots of good conversation. And they had every appliance that I want for my future home. I have been looking up stuff on line for awhile, but it was dreamy to see my future stove and refrigerator sitting in the same room. I have a feeling I'm in for a big reality check when all my dreams for my home meet up with the budget for the home. Oh,well!
